Palmer Ranch
Rooted in Durango: Celebrating the Palmer Family and the recently conserved 814-acre Palmer Ranch
Meet the heroes behind Palmer Ranch!
For over 70 years, the Palmer family has been part of the Durango community. From owning the Sunset Motel on North Main Avenue in the early 1950s, to purchasing the core of Palmer Ranch in 1956, this family has deep roots in La Plata County — working the land, raising a family, and becoming a beloved part of this place we all call home.
Their decision to protect over 800 acres through a permanent conservation easement is a reflection of who they are — a family that loves this land and wants to see it cherished for generations to come.
We are so grateful to have the Palmers as part of our community.
Cheers to the Palmer Family!
